I mostly welcome the unexpected. As a traveller, trekker and photographer, it is often the source of the most memorable experiences. Still, waking in the middle of the night, six days into a trek through the Uzbek mountains, to find my tent half collapsed under falling snow wasn't exactly the surprise I had hoped for.
When morning finally came, everything had changed. Mist and scattered light blended into a whitened landscape, softening the mountains into something quiet and almost unreal. After the turbulence of the night, it felt strangely magical. The kind of morning photographers quietly hope for, but never dare plan.
