I am always drawn to local markets and bazaars when travelling: the messier and busier, the better. Overflowing with textures of raw silk, aromas of a thousand spices, metallic rings of copper and an endless tide of human movement, the ones in Uzbekistan never disappointed. A kind of organized chaos where the best opportunities seem to reveal themselves.
The alley I captured here suddenly emptied, if only for a few seconds, as golden evening light poured through. Against the shadowed walls and cold electric glow, it brought an entirely different atmosphere. I tried to capture that contrast, a brief moment of stillness in a place made for motion.
