While trekking through Zanskar, my guide and I were invited to a local wedding. When I asked about the traditions surrounding the event, what we could bring and the products we might find, he suggested a detour to the high pastures, where herders spend the summer caring for their yaks and producing the cheese that would likely make its way to the celebration.
The woman I photographed there was milking a yak in a field full of them. A brief glimpse into a remote and demanding life, deeply connected to the rhythm of the mountains.
